Disney-ABC Television Group President Ben Sherwood has chosen Channing Dungey as the next president of ABC Entertainment, becoming not only the first African American chief of ABC, but also the first black president of a major broadcast TV network.

The UCLA graduate was the network’s executive vice president for drama development, movies and mini-series.

Dungey is said to have played a key role along with the now former entertainment president, Paul Lee, in bringing hit diverse shows to the network, like “Scandal,” “How to Get Away with Murder” and “Quantico.”
